LAYER BY LAYER: 3D PRINTING AT FASHION SPACE GALLERY

With the lines that separate fashion and technology becoming increasingly blurred, it’s no wonder the art of 3D printing is on the rise. Layer by Layer, the first of a two-part exhibition at the London College of Fashion explores the process of 3D printing within fashion. Providing an insight into the process, materials and application of the medium through a variety of designer’s printed pieces, it’s an exhibition that puts you very much on the fringe of the future.

Ali Alavi’s Icicle Chair

The Icicle Chair by Ali Alavi is definitely the type of furniture that’ll whip up a conversation with anyone.

This blast of gothic chic and wintery style chair is eye-catching and looks dangerously inviting. The threatening spikes offer a dominatrix feel and it’s both sassy and stylish and if Lady Gaga had a throne, this would be it. It’s not for everyone but it’s the type of furniture that shows off one’s intriguing personality.

The chair’s contrast is balanced well with its sharp and intimidating spikes juxtaposing with the sleek and uniformed seat. The black chairs offer a more dark and gothic style while the the colored seats provide an illumination of vibrant primary shades. For the more light and contemporary chic styles, the Icicle Chair by Ali Alavi comes in a glass-like material.

H&M’s newest collaboration? Maison Martin Margiela

h&m maison martin margielaFor all my fashionistas ballin on a budget (guys, this includes you too) you should get really hype for this….Maison Martin Margiela is coming to H&M! The collection will be released on November 15th in select stores across the world, offering clothes and accessories for both men and women.

The French fashion house, created in 1988, was founded by Martin Margiela, a Belgian designer who is often labeled as the seventh member of the original avant-garde group of designers called Antwerp Six. The house follows its own path, toying with fashion norms and using deconstruction and transformation to create new staples. The further you step away from the conventional fashion framework, the closer you come to understanding what the brand is all about.

“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this radical collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment,” says Margareta van den Bosch of H&M

Regarding the collaboration, Margiela issued this statement:

“The democracy of our fashion has always been at the center of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”

What do you think of the collaboration? Let us know!

Sabine Ducasse Spring/Summer 2012

The Sabine Ducasse ‘Melting Pot’ Collection is an extremely confident clothing combination. The Shanghai-based designer Sabine Ducasse created this incredible collection for Spring/Summer 2012. The kaleidoscopic patterns are made into armor-silhouetted clothing pieces perfect for the funky fashion warrior.

Using fashionable over-the-top sleeves, Ducasse makes bold statement pieces. In the photograph that shows off the expansive wingspan of the armor, you can truly examine the detail of the pieces.

The clothing is then complimented with equally adventurous accessories. Ducasse’s colorful headpieces and glasses are created using bright beading and would make for a fun DIY project for the willing and skilled.

Though the pieces are quirky, the multi-colored collection will definitely stand out in the crowd.
