What happens when the iPhone goes haute horology? The Calibre 788

Bissol iPhone 5

The definition and form of time as an object have been upset. Since the advent of the cellphone, the watch’s primary function has completely transformed. There are still many features that can make a watch a very precious item, even reaching 7 figures in price; but today, the gap is being narrowed with the arrival of a new timepiece category, a concept launched by Bissol with its Calibre 788.

This new player is taking to the market with an offbeat and innovative concept: making the iPhone 5 into a timepiece unlike any other. Bissol’s Calibre 788 will be the first timepiece in the world exclusively developed for Apple’s iPhone 5, yet more proof that Apple has really revolutionized the world of mobile telephony.

This timepiece accessory is attached to the bottom of the iPhone, allowing you to get the time without turning on or unlocking your phone, and by the same token letting you save battery life.

As for technical details, this Calibre 788 has a Swiss quartz movement with 5 rubies and offers a further feature, the reading of the lunar phase. Everything is made to be very similar to the iPhone’s aesthetics, with anodized aluminum casing, gold, and painted sapphire crystal for both the white and black versions of the iPhone. Will future colored versions be arriving at Apple? No word on that for the moment.

Chic Frames for the Chic College Student: SEE Eyewear

As mid-term week approaches, college students start to get lazier when it comes to putting on a fresh face before stepping out of the dorm. Wouldn’t it be great to look casual and trendy at the same time without even trying?

Fashion experts have long been debating the easiest way to add a flare of sophistication to a simple outfit. But I have found the secret in a commonplace accessory: glasses.

Glasses are your go-to secret weapon. When confronting fashion in college, might at first seem counter intuitive  When walking around campus, I only see thick-lensed frames pop up on faces of computer science nerds or on athletes battling pink eye. Most college students have their seventh-grade frames stashed away in their bottom desk drawer for emergency purposes only.

But the fact that the majority of college students opt for contact lenses makes wearing glasses unique. And if you pick out a super cute pair, it can add a new layer of personality to your look that feels just as refreshing as a new makeover.

Whether you’re one to plan your outfits days in advance or you barely manage to roll out of bed in time for class, a perfect pair of glasses can give you a nerdy chic twist that adds an unidentifiable spark to any look.

I discovered my power weapon in a pair of glasses from an eye-wear boutique in Boston a couple of years back. While satisfying my shopping cravings on Newbury St., I stumbled upon SEE Eyewear. Their window display glinting with colorful and retro-style frames lured me into their basement store, where I spent hours trying on various frames before settling on a pair of ruby red specs with tortoise shell lining the sides.

SEE’s carefully crafted frames might edge on the pricier side of your budget, but the quality makes up for the cost. Their stores can be found all across the country and have grown in renown throughout the years. Just this fall, SEE Eyewear was featured in magazines including Marie Claire, Seventeen, People and GQ. As a lover of SEE since the very start, I know that their newly acquired prominence does not go unwarranted.

Whether you choose SEE or another local eye-wear boutique, make sure to choose a pair of frames that fits your face shape. Experiment with colors and dare to be bold! Glasses can make a statement that says a lot about your personality, so make sure your pair accurately reflects you.

Transparent Fashion

There is nothing to hide with these transparent fashion accessories. There seems to be a common theme of see-through or transparency in fashion, echoed in these fabulous finds. These transparent trimmings are all the rage of runways, fashion blogs and, most importantly, the streets. From classy Danish shades to twisted lucite jewelry, despite being clear these finds have the ability to catch any eye.

Footwear is the main outlet for designers to harness transparent fashion. Perhaps it is because a pair of see-through high heels will make any fashionistas feel like they are wearing real-life Cinderella shoes. But many of these designs go beyond feeling like a princess, such as the electrifying highlighter-hued kicks by Fluo Derby that mix transparency with a flash of neon.

And, if you are not willing to spend money on couture fairytale footwear, there are many alternatives for bringing in a see-through look with DIY tutorials teaching fashionistas how to make crystal clear purses.

Is Adidas Setting “Us” B(l)ack?

picture via The Fashion Bomb

I’ve always admired Adidas‘ creativity. Especially the one it takes with its Originals Collection. Whether it is the shoe that “give you wings” with its Jeremy Scott collection or a recent collab with Opening Ceremony, I usually pick Adidas first in certain categories. That’s why I was very disheartened when I saw the new JS (Jeremy Scott) Roundhouse shoes featuring orange shackles. Though, I’m sure, Adidas and Jeremy Scott never imagined that their wild and spunky creativity would be taken out of context, indeed it has. The Facebook post garnered 2,823 comments to date with many mixed emotions.

So, what do you think? Are these shoes painful reminders of slavery/prison, or are they simply just pushing the boundaries of fashion and worth the $350 price tag come August?

Also, do you think that African Americans are too sensitive when it comes to issues that can be perceived remotely close to anything racist?

Sabine Ducasse Spring/Summer 2012

The Sabine Ducasse ‘Melting Pot’ Collection is an extremely confident clothing combination. The Shanghai-based designer Sabine Ducasse created this incredible collection for Spring/Summer 2012. The kaleidoscopic patterns are made into armor-silhouetted clothing pieces perfect for the funky fashion warrior.

Using fashionable over-the-top sleeves, Ducasse makes bold statement pieces. In the photograph that shows off the expansive wingspan of the armor, you can truly examine the detail of the pieces.

The clothing is then complimented with equally adventurous accessories. Ducasse’s colorful headpieces and glasses are created using bright beading and would make for a fun DIY project for the willing and skilled.

Though the pieces are quirky, the multi-colored collection will definitely stand out in the crowd.

Top Ten Favorite Looks from the Met Gala!

Last night New York was on fire from the red-hot looks on the red carpet at the Met Gala. I live-streamed it via Vogue.com. The event was to celebrate the new exhibit, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.

Diana Kruger in Prada. I loved the sort of Boho top with the drama of the feathers at the bottom.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier. I really loved the color and the silhouette of this dress.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino. Maybe I’m bias because it’s Carrie (lol) but I just think she looked soft, pretty, and chic!

Rosario Dawson in Calvin Klein. Talk about a “hot mama”! This dress looks like it’s painted on, in a good way!

Amber Heard in and with Zac Posen. Though they’re matching like prom, they both look great in their own rights. This dress is about the drama, me likey the drama!

Chloe Sevigny in Miu Miu! Yes and yes! Some may think it’s inappropriate for the Met Gala but that’s what I love. It’s short, revealing, and most importantly, EYE CATCHING!

Cate Blanchett in McQueen. Talk about chic monster. I live for this look. It’s black, powerful, and wondrous!

TOP THREE

Ivanka Trump in Peter Pilotto. YES, YES, YES! I love this! It’s sexy, and it’s interesting. She made velvet look HOT which can be tricky. I also love the color!

Solange in Rachel Roy. Oh, Solange, how I love thee, let me count the ways… She knows how to work a dress. She looked fresh-faced and beautiful. The color is stunning on her and I love the huge afro. YES, honey!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE

January Jones in Versace. I love this dress, and it is my absolute favorite. Everyone should know by now that I love color, and the metallic armor-like detail in the dress makes her look like a chic superhero goddess. I’m in lust, heavy lust, with this look. Perfect hair, perfect length of the dress, perfect make-up and jewelry, just flawless!
