Brothers, boyfriends, nephews, boy-friends (the “NO, I swear we’re just friends”) boy-friends. Holidays approach, however, and we often remember what it is about them we can not stand: they don’t tell us what they want. We play incredible interrogation-style mind tricks trying to read them, and usually to no avail. So, I went ahead and spent some time scouring the internet. Every type of guy can be shopped for… he WILL be shopped for. Here are a few quick ideas to get you started:
Ideas for…
The Tech Geek/The Video Game Nerd
A ‘History of Apple’ 18×24 poster for the Steve Jobs/Apple lover he is.
Does he have a big presentation coming up? Does he want to be a memorable candidate for an internship? Does he collect ties? Yes? Great. Here: http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/wood-tie
Here’s hoping I could help you get your holiday shopping started for those lovable, albeit difficult boys of ours. Cheers to hopefully getting something good in return this year! (I mean let’s not hold our breath though.)

Geek chic refers to the embracing of stereotypically unpopular “geek” characteristics such as being tech savvy, wearing “nerd” glasses, reading comic books, and playing video games. Are you a real geek? Are you proud of being a geekette? Do you believe that being a geek does not mean that you can’t be sexy and feminine at the same time?
[blockquote_left]…they can also kick your ass in Gears of War while sipping on chocolate martinis[/blockquote_left]Recently, a young, all female group in Chicago has taken control of the reigns, changing the definition of “geek” and turning it into a lifestyle of chic, intelligent, fashionable, video game playing enthusiast. They are the Sugar Gamers.
The Sugar Gamers Live a Geek Chic Lifestyle.
“My Sugar gamers’ are REAL women. They are women that you would never expect to be serious gamers. They are Lawyers, grad students, established professionals and everything in-between. They are beautiful, classy, intelligent, VERY social, and each has a great individual sense of style- they can also kick your ass in Gears of War while sipping on chocolate martinis,” says Keisha Howard, Founder

of Sugar Gamers.
Sugar Gamers now throws promotional events for game developers, cover conventions and expos (ACEN, C2E2, Wizard World, E3) in an editorial capacity. The group has been recognized by major names in the fashion, entertainment, and gaming industries including Victoria Secret, which hosted the Sugar Gamer “Giving is Sexy” girls night out party at the newly opened flagship store in Chicago this past Dec. Since then, the girls have held monthly events at various venues around Chicago. The themes always center around video games and tie in elements of fashion, music, food and art… and this is only the beginning.
In addition to video game competitions and conventions, the girls are active in their community, adopting parks, organizing after school events and programs, and donating to charity.
“When I started the group, I set out to not only provide something that women can be empowered by, but also provide a outlet for them to give back. Gaming is an industry that was dominated by men, but almost half of all gamers are female. With Sugar Gamers, women can take pride in that, and bring their favorite pastime to light.” – Keisha Howard, Founder and CEO.
